The legal category a medicine sits in is not a rating of how dangerous it is. Stimulants sit in a stricter class than several drugs that are considerably harder to come off, and the ordering owes a good deal to history.
The classification explains the extra paperwork, the monthly prescriptions and the pharmacy's caution. It does not tell you what the medicine will do to you. If that category is what worries you, ask instead what the actual risks are for someone with your history and your other conditions, which is a different question and a far more useful one.

Do not follow blindly what you do not know to be true: ears, eyes, and heart, you will be questioned about all these (Quran 17:36). A label is not knowledge, and that holds whether the label frightens you or comforts you.

What the research says
Large studies using linked prescription databases associate ADHD medication with fewer injuries, accidents and less criminality, a picture of everyday risk that runs against what the classification implies. Those studies are not randomised, so people who take medication may differ from those who do not in ways that are hard to adjust for, and the reviewers say so clearly. Read them as reassuring rather than as conclusive.

A legal class is set by regulation and history, while the clinical risks are a separate matter that has to be asked about separately.

When somebody decides against medication, respect the decision and then say the rest plainly. Some of the struggle will stay, and no amount of therapy or another clever app will fully close that gap.
The alpha-2 medicines work differently again. Picture small ports on the receiving cell that let noise in and let signal leak away, and a medicine that closes them.
People usually stop for one of three reasons: the side effects are not worth it, the price is too high, or the dose was never raised far enough to do anything. The last one is the saddest, because it makes a workable medicine look useless.
