Conversations about alcohol and cannabis tend to be timed for the child you expect to have at fourteen. With an attention difficulty in the picture, start them earlier and keep them light.
Early does not mean heavy. It means the subject is already open, so the first offer is not the first mention. Keep the tone curious rather than warning, and let them tell you what they have already seen at school. A child who can report something without being interrogated will report the next thing too.

Qur’an and Sunnah
'you can ask those who have knowledge if you do not know' (Quran 16:43). If you are unsure when to start, that is a question for whoever is treating your child rather than one to sit on.

What the research says
Around one child in twenty meets criteria for ADHD worldwide, while the proportion actually identified and treated swings enormously between countries and services. So a large number of children carry this without anyone naming it, and they are the least likely to have had a considered conversation about anything. That figure describes prevalence and services rather than when children first try substances, so treat the timing advice as practical rather than proven.

Licences start at six years old, and that number comes from how trials have to be run rather than from a safety finding. Younger children do get treated where the case is strong.
Non-stimulants are usually tried after the stimulants rather than instead of them, mostly because they are harder to tolerate. That is about order, not about the drug being second rate.
A medicine can help some people and still fail to win approval for a condition. Modafinil is the usual example, cleared for a sleep disorder and short of the bar for attention.
