Licences start at six years old, and that number comes from how trials have to be run rather than from a safety finding. Younger children do get treated where the case is strong.
Trials need the child's own assent alongside a parent's consent, and assent means a form the child can read and understand, so studies stop where reading does. Prescribing below that age is off-label, which means unlicensed for the group rather than improper. If it is being suggested for a small child, ask what is driving it, what will be watched, and how soon the two of you will look again.
This explains how treatments work. Never start, stop or change a medication because of something you read here.
Qur’an and Sunnah
'Think about the provision God has sent down for you, some of which you have made unlawful and some lawful' (Quran 10:59). A prohibition that came from us rather than from the evidence is worth examining.
Say, ‘Think about the provision God has sent down for you, some of which you have made unlawful and some lawful.’ Say, ‘Has God given you permission [to do this], or are you inventing lies about God?’

What the research says
A systematic review of bupropion in children and adolescents found some benefit for those who could not tolerate stimulants or did not respond to them, from small studies, in a use that holds no licence for this condition. Off-label prescribing therefore rests on evidence of varying strength rather than on none. That review is about a different drug and it makes the general point: unlicensed and unstudied are not the same word.

Strength of evidence: one line of research. A single study, or a theoretical account.
Why it works
A licence follows where trials could be run, and trials could not be run in children too young to agree to them.
When not to
Treating a child this young belongs with a specialist who sees them often, not with one prescription and a long gap.
This one is still a draft. It is waiting on a scholar and a clinician to read it before it is published.
Near this one
Some settings simply suit an attention difficulty better. Expectations set out minute by minute, consequences that arrive the same day, a visible ladder to climb: military life often fits for exactly those reasons.
Most people who try do find something that helps, but often not the first thing they try. Not responding to one class of stimulant says surprisingly little about the other.
Being given a medicine that holds no licence for your condition can feel like being experimented on. Usually it means the evidence is decent but thinner than a licence demands.
