Skipping weekends, holidays and summers is a common suggestion and mostly it is the wrong call. The difficulty does not take a holiday when school does.

Unstructured time asks more of planning and self-regulation rather than less: whole days to fill, everyone at home, no timetable holding the shape of things. Family rows, driving and money decisions all sit in those weeks. If the real reason for a break is appetite or sleep, say so directly, because that is a dose and timing problem with its own answers rather than a case for stopping for six weeks.

Before you use this

This explains how treatments work. Never start, stop or change a medication because of something you read here.

Qur’an and Sunnah

'truly it is in the remembrance of God that hearts find peace' (Quran 13:28). A settling of that kind is real, and it was never meant to stand in for an ordinary remedy for an ordinary impairment.

What the research says

A review of long-term treatment in adults found short-term benefit from stimulants and atomoxetine well documented, while evidence about real-world outcomes over the long run stays limited. So the case for treating continuously rests mostly on what daily life demands rather than on long-term trial data. That is worth admitting plainly when someone asks how strong the evidence is.

Strength of evidence: one line of research. A single study, or a theoretical account.

Why it works

Life outside term time still needs the thing the medicine is helping with.

When not to

Planned breaks are sometimes right, for instance to check whether a medicine is still needed, and they belong with the prescriber rather than with the first week of the holidays.

This one is still a draft. It is waiting on a scholar and a clinician to read it before it is published.
