Everything has side effects, including doing nothing. The only real question is whether what you gain outweighs what it costs you.

The conversation about medication often gets set up as a risky drug against a safe natural alternative, and that is not the choice anyone is actually facing. Untreated ADHD carries its own documented costs, in accidents, in school, in work and in relationships, and those belong on the page alongside appetite and sleep. Put both columns down honestly and you can make a decision you will still stand behind in a year, whichever way it goes.

This explains how treatments work. Never start, stop or change a medication because of something you read here.

Qur’an and Sunnah

He who cures me when I am ill (Quran 26:80). Seeking treatment is put in the mouth of a prophet, so taking medicine is not a failure of trust.

What the research says

A Cochrane review examined amphetamines for adults with ADHD, looking at how well they work and how safe they are, and at how dose, drug and release formulation affect both. Reviewing benefit and harm together is the standard way this is done in medicine, and it is a fair model for a family conversation. The review also records real uncertainty in places, which is worth knowing before anyone tells you the answer is obvious either way.

Strength of evidence: one line of research. A single study, or a theoretical account.

Why it works

A choice made by looking at one column only is not really a choice, because the cost of the other option never got counted.

This one is still a draft. It is waiting on a scholar and a clinician to read it before it is published.
