Nobody is sitting in the passenger seat handing out rewards for safe driving. Medication is the part of treatment that is present when no adult is.
Behavioural plans need somebody to run them. The moments carrying the most risk in adolescence are the ones with nobody there: the drive home, the party, the message sent at midnight. Naming that gap helps parents who feel they ought to be managing this with rules and rewards alone. They are not failing at it, they are up against a coverage problem.

Qur’an and Sunnah
'God will be enough for those who put their trust in Him' (Quran 65:3). Trust of that kind sits alongside taking the means that reach where you cannot go yourself.

What the research says
An updated systematic review of treatment for adolescents confirms methylphenidate as a well established treatment in this age group, while behaviour therapy was only preliminarily supported for adolescents. That describes the state of the evidence rather than any particular family's plan. It fits the practical point, since the behavioural side has less to stand on in exactly the years when supervision thins out.

If you are living on campus, ask the pharmacist to split the month's supply across two labelled bottles. Then whichever one you are carrying has a valid prescription label on it.
If you take a prescribed stimulant and your workplace tests, sort the paperwork before anyone asks. A labelled bottle and a short letter from your prescriber turn an alarming result into a filing matter.
A swimming float keeps you at the surface. It does not decide which end of the pool you are heading for, and medication is much the same.
