One question is worth asking before choosing between products: which part of the day actually goes wrong? Bead type capsules tend to give more early on, while the pump type keeps more back for the afternoon.
Two products can hold the same molecule and cover the same number of hours, and still fit one person and not another, because of where the strongest stretch sits. A lost first lesson points somewhere quite different from a homework meltdown at five o'clock. Keeping a rough note for a fortnight, with times against it, gives the prescriber something to work with instead of a general impression.

Qur’an and Sunnah
'conduct their affairs by mutual consultation' (Quran 42:38). Bringing your own observations to the appointment is what turns it into a consultation rather than a guess.

What the research says
No test tells you in advance which one will fit. A systematic review of the pharmacogenetics of methylphenidate response in adults found genetic variants explaining part of the variation in who responds, though nowhere near enough to guide prescribing in practice. So the honest method for now is patient watching over a few weeks, which is slower than a test and rather more reliable.
