There is now a version taken in the evening that only switches on around nine hours later, so it is already working when you wake. The point of it is the morning, not the night.
Most families know the first hour of the day as the worst one, because the tablet taken at breakfast has not started yet and everyone still has to get out of the door. A dose taken the night before covers that hour and still runs into the evening. What you take on in exchange is the timing of the evening dose, since that now sets the hour the medicine begins.
This explains how treatments work. Never start, stop or change a medication because of something you read here.
Qur’an and Sunnah
'God wants ease for you, not hardship' (Quran 2:185). A survivable morning counts as ease, and it is allowed to want one.
It was in the month of Ramadan that the Quran was revealed as guidance for mankind, clear messages giving guidance and distinguishing between right and wrong. So any one of you who is present that month should fast, and anyone who is ill or on a journey should make up for the lost days by fasting on other days later. God wants ease for you, not hardship. He wants you to complete the prescribed period and to glorify Him for having guided you, so that you may be thankful

What the research says
It is worth keeping expectations modest with newer formulations. A review of controlled and naturalistic studies of stimulants and atomoxetine in adults concluded that short term efficacy is well documented while evidence for long term effects on real world outcomes remains limited. That review came before this particular product, and the caution it makes is the general one: what a medicine does this week is much better studied than what it does to a life over years.

Strength of evidence: one line of research. A single study, or a theoretical account.
Why it works
Taking it the night before means it is already at work during the hour that usually gets lost.
This one is still a draft. It is waiting on a scholar and a clinician to read it before it is published.
Near this one
If you carry a firm dislike of medication from childhood, it is worth asking what you actually remember. Often what is remembered is a row between two adults rather than anything the medicine did.
More of the medicine is not automatically better. What you are looking for is a level that sits inside the working range, and going past it usually brings side effects rather than sharper thinking.
Waiting to see how they get on carries a cost that is easy to miss. Every year a child spends behind narrows what is available to them the year after.
