The line about not cutting, crushing or chewing a long acting medicine is a safety instruction with a real mechanism behind it. Break the coating and the whole day's dose arrives in one go.

People sometimes crush a capsule because swallowing is genuinely hard, not because they are misusing it, so ask before assuming. There are usually proper answers: some capsules can be opened onto a spoonful of soft food, some medicines come as a liquid or a chewable, and some allow neither. A pharmacist can tell you which of those applies to the exact product in the cupboard.

This explains how treatments work. Never start, stop or change a medication because of something you read here.

Qur’an and Sunnah

'Eat from the good things We have provided for you, but do not overstep the bounds' (Quran 20:81). Permission and limit arrive in the same sentence, which is all a dosing instruction ever is.

‘Eat from the good things We have provided for you, but do not overstep the bounds, or My wrath will descend on you. Anyone on whom My wrath descends has truly fallen

What the research says

The longer term safety picture is thinner than the short term one, which is part of why the handling instructions deserve respect. A Cochrane review of amphetamines for adults with ADHD found symptom reductions alongside short trial durations and high dropout, leaving longer term safety uncertain. That review looked at ordinary prescribed use rather than at what happens when a coating is breached, so it sets no ceiling. It simply shows how much of the safety ground is still unmapped.

Strength of evidence: one line of research. A single study, or a theoretical account.

Why it works

A dose designed to arrive over ten hours behaves very differently when it all arrives in ten minutes.

When not to

If swallowing is the real problem, ask for a different formulation rather than altering the one you already have.

This one is still a draft. It is waiting on a scholar and a clinician to read it before it is published.
