Quiet room, clear desk, phone in a drawer, and you are still nowhere near the work. When the outside distractions go, the restlessness does not leave with them. It moves inside.
Headphones and a tidy desk handle half the problem. The other half is a mind looking for something to do, which will supply its own if nothing else is offered. What usually helps is giving it a little of what it is after: move your body before you sit down, work in shorter bursts, hook the task onto something you find genuinely interesting, or say the dull part out loud so more of you is involved in it.
Qur’an and Sunnah
Those who remember God standing, sitting, and lying down (Quran 3:191). The remembering is placed in exactly the idle moments where restlessness otherwise goes looking for something.
who remember God standing, sitting, and lying down, who reflect on the creation of the heavens and earth: ‘Our Lord! You have not created all this without purpose- You are far above that!- so protect us from the torment of the Fire

What the research says
A meta-analysis of mind wandering found it rises as a task becomes more demanding and varies reliably between people. Separately, a meta-analysis of 40 case-control studies found cognitive impairments in problematic internet use, after accounting for the weaknesses of the individual studies. Neither tells you what to do with a restless afternoon. What they support is that internal drift is a real and measurable thing rather than a shortage of trying.

Strength of evidence: one line of research. A single study, or a theoretical account.
Why it works
A mind short of stimulation makes its own, so silence on its own does not leave you focused. It leaves you drifting.
This one is still a draft. It is waiting on a scholar and a clinician to read it before it is published.
Near this one
If the screen limit in your house is only your preference, every evening turns into a negotiation about your preference. Borrowing a published figure, roughly two hours a day of leisure screen time for a child over two, moves the argument off you.
Try one hour with the phone away and out of reach, then talk about what came up. The hour itself is the information.
Tell someone their phone is wrecking their sleep and you have handed them something to argue with. Ask instead what they notice on the mornings after a late scroll, and let them say it.
