An hour exists somewhere in the week for almost anything. That is what makes yes so easy, and it is not the same as having an hour.
The question that gets skipped is not whether the time exists but what is already claiming it. Answering that means calling to mind everything you have promised, guessing how long each will take and comparing them, all while somebody stands waiting for your answer. It is a lot to do on the spot, and coming up short is not carelessness.
Qur’an and Sunnah
Do not be tight-fisted, nor so open-handed that you end up blamed and overwhelmed with regret (Quran 17:29). Both failure modes get named, and the one that ends in regret is the generous one.

What the research says
Clinical writing on monitoring adult ADHD treats poor time management as a core associated feature to be tracked over time, alongside disorganisation and procrastination, rather than as the odd lapse. If it needs monitoring in treatment, it is not something willpower was ever going to settle. That review reflects clinical consensus on what to watch, not a measurement of how far off people's estimates run.

Strength of evidence: one line of research. A single study, or a theoretical account.
Why it works
You cannot subtract what you have not remembered, so time you have already spent looks free.
This one is still a draft. It is waiting on a scholar and a clinician to read it before it is published.
Near this one
Difficult things come out more easily when your hands are occupied and you are not looking straight at the other person. Walk side by side, drive somewhere, wash up together, keep the sewing going.
Before anything else, check the child actually knows what the homework is. Most homework goes missing at that first step, not at the effort step.
ADHD clutter and hoarding look alike from the doorway and are not the same thing. Many people living among piles would be delighted if the lot vanished overnight.
