Putting something in the calendar does not sign you up for life. If Wednesday turns out wrong, drag it to Thursday. The entry is a plan, and plans are allowed to change.

People who fear being locked in tend to end up with an empty calendar and a full head, which is the worse of the two problems. Say the permission out loud at the start: everything in here can be moved. Moving something is not a failure, it is the system doing its job, and you still end the week knowing what you took on.

Qur’an and Sunnah

It is He who made the night and day follow each other, so anyone who wishes may be mindful or show gratitude (Quran 25:62). The occasion keeps coming round again, so a missed slot is not the end of anything.

What the research says

An experimental study found that if then plans reduced the pull of an existing habit on behaviour, though the benefit shrank as the competing habit grew stronger. A plan holds a place and tips the odds a little. It does not bind you, and treating it as binding asks more of it than the evidence gives.

Strength of evidence: one line of research. A single study, or a theoretical account.

Why it works

When changing your mind stays cheap, you are willing to commit to something in the first place.

This one is still a draft. It is waiting on a scholar and a clinician to read it before it is published.
