Let the child score themselves on the same sheet the teacher scores. Two columns, filled in separately, then looked at together.

At first the two columns can be miles apart, and that is the useful bit rather than a problem. Nobody is being caught out. Over the weeks the gap narrows, and that narrowing is its own kind of progress: the child is learning to read how a lesson actually went, which is a skill they will still need when no one is handing out sheets.

Qur’an and Sunnah

We witness you when you are engaged in it (Quran 10:61). Being seen while you are doing something is not framed as catching you out, and a shared sheet can be kind in the same way.

In whatever matter you [Prophet] may be engaged and whatever part of the Quran you are reciting, whatever work you [people] are doing, We witness you when you are engaged in it. Not even the weight of a speck of dust in the earth or sky escapes your Lord, nor anything lesser or greater: it is all written in a clear record

What the research says

In a study of 124 adults with ADHD receiving twelve weeks of structured CBT, the outcomes measured included self-esteem and everyday functioning alongside core symptoms, which is a reminder that how a person sees themselves is treated as part of the picture rather than a side issue. Learning to see yourself accurately belongs in the same territory. That study compared medication alongside therapy and says nothing about self-rating exercises in children.

Strength of evidence: one line of research. A single study, or a theoretical account.

Why it works

Seeing your own guess next to somebody else's account is how you learn to judge yourself accurately.

This one is still a draft. It is waiting on a scholar and a clinician to read it before it is published.
