Qur’an and Sunnah

The servants of the Merciful ask for joy in their spouses (Qur'an 25:74). To share your spouse's joy is to answer that prayer.

those who pray, ‘Our Lord, give us joy in our spouses and offspring. Make us good examples to those who are aware of You’

What the research says

How you greet a partner's good news matters even more than how you meet their bad. Genuine delight makes you the one they most want to share joy with.

Johnson, S.M. (2019). Attachment Theory in Practice: Emotionally Focused Therapy with Individuals, Couples, and Families. Guilford

The originator's account of EFT as attachment-based practice.

Strength of evidence: one line of research. A single study, or a theoretical account.

Why it works

Enthusiastic response to good news predicts a stronger bond than support in hard times.

Where this sits: EFT (Emotionally Focused Therapy), attachment-based couple intervention.
