Let the hurt partner set the pace of healing. It takes as long as it takes; there is no rushing trust back.
You cannot demand that trust return on a schedule. Honor the injured partner's timeline without pressure.
Qur’an and Sunnah
God does not burden any soul with more than it can bear (Quran 2:286). Let the healing move at the pace the heart can actually carry.
God does not burden any soul with more than it can bear: each gains whatever good it has done, and suffers its bad- ‘ Lord, do not take us to task if we forget or make mistakes. Lord, do not burden us as You burdened those before us. Lord, do not burden us with more than we have strength to bear. Pardon us, forgive us, and have mercy on us. You are our Protector, so help us against the disbelievers.’

What the research says
Trust returns on the injured partner's timeline, not the offender's wish for it to be over; pressing for fast forgiveness stalls recovery, while patience with the pace supports it.

Newlywed interaction patterns; accepting influence; soft start-up.
Strength of evidence: one line of research. A single study, or a theoretical account.
Why it works
Allowing the injured partner to set the pace, rather than pressing for quick closure, is what lets real trust rebuild.
Where this sits: Gottman method, Trust and Commitment; Affairs, Phase 1: Atone (the hurt partner sets the pace).
This one is still a draft. It is waiting on a scholar and a clinician to read it before it is published.
Near this one
Rebuild the small rituals of connection that eroded: predictable, reliable moments you can both count on.
Do not try to restore the old marriage. Build a new one, on honesty, transparency, and witnessing each other's truths.
A betrayal is the choice of the one who made it. Unhappiness never forced it, and it is not the hurt partner's fault.
