When you are ready, face the hard memory in small, bearable doses, with support, not all at once and not never.

Avoiding forever keeps the fear alive; flooding yourself re-wounds. Small, chosen doses are how it loses its grip.

Before you use this

This explains an approach used in therapy. It is not a set of instructions to follow alone.

Qur’an and Sunnah

God will be enough for those who put their trust in Him; God has set a due measure for everything (Quran 65:3). There is a measured pace to this; you do not face it alone or all at once.

What the research says

Fear fades when you approach what you fear in a safe, manageable way rather than avoiding it. Small chosen doses, with support, are how the memory stops running you.

Foa, E. B. and Kozak, M. J. (1986). Emotional processing of fear: Exposure to corrective information. Psychological Bulletin doi

Fear fades when a person approaches what they fear in a safe, manageable way rather than avoiding it.

Strength of evidence: one line of research. A single study, or a theoretical account.

Why it works

Approaching a feared memory in safe, manageable steps lets the fear fade, where avoidance keeps it charged.

Where this sits: Stage 2, Remembrance and Mourning (Herman); titrated exposure.

This one is still a draft. It is waiting on a scholar and a clinician to read it before it is published.
