Tapping pairs light contact on acupressure points with saying the trouble out loud. The claims made for it run ahead of the evidence, and it is cheap, quick and safe enough to try.
The idea underneath is that you hold the distressing thing in mind while your body receives a steady, harmless signal at the same time. Whether the specific points matter is very much an open question. If you use it, use it as an experiment on yourself, and keep the measure simple: how strong was it before, how strong now.
Qur’an and Sunnah
'We send down the Quran as healing and mercy to those who believe' (Quran 17:82). Words carrying healing is a category the Qur'an claims for itself, which is worth holding beside a technique that pairs speech with touch.

What the research says
In a set of randomised experiments, brief affectionate touch during a conflict discussion buffered stress and protected relationship quality compared with no touch. That supports the general principle of contact arriving while distress is live. It says nothing about acupressure points, and it was touch from a partner rather than your own fingertips.

Strength of evidence: one line of research. A single study, or a theoretical account.
Why it works
Touching yourself calmly while thinking about something painful lets both signals arrive at once, and the calm one does not go unnoticed.
This one is still a draft. It is waiting on a scholar and a clinician to read it before it is published.
Near this one
Most people are already doing something for themselves outside your room: herbs, a chiropractor, breathing videos, a weekly massage. Ask, plainly and without a raised eyebrow.
The same treatment in two different clinics can go two different ways, and the difference is often the people. Kind, unhurried staff who explain things get better results.
Picture somewhere peaceful and then walk in it. Feel the ground under each foot, your legs moving, and count the steps up to twenty.
