Notice the tone you use with them that you would never use with a guest.
The people closest to us too often receive our least careful manners; this gently reverses that.
Qur’an and Sunnah
The Prophet ﷺ was the gentlest of people with his own family. The sharp tone we save for those we love most is exactly the one worth catching.
By an act of mercy from God, you [Prophet] were gentle in your dealings with them- had you been harsh, or hard-hearted, they would have dispersed and left you- so pardon them and ask forgiveness for them. Consult with them about matters, then, when you have decided on a course of action, put your trust in God: God loves those who put their trust in Him

What the research says
We often hand our least careful manners to the people closest to us. Noticing the tone you would never use with a guest is the first step to giving them your best, not your leftovers.
