Telling parents that their child's self-management is running behind their age usually brings relief rather than alarm. It names something they had already noticed and had been blaming somebody for.

Left unexplained, parents fill the gap with a story, and the story is almost always that the child is choosing this or that they have parented badly. A developmental account replaces a moral one, and the pressure at home tends to drop with it. Say it plainly, give an example from their own week, and pair it with what to expect as things mature.

Qur’an and Sunnah

We have created all things in due measure (Quran 54:49). A child made to a measure is not a child a parent failed to make properly.

إِنَّا كُلَّ شَيۡءٍ خَلَقۡنَٰهُ بِقَدَرࣲ‏

What the research says

A meta-analysis of parenting and family environment as risk factors for ADHD examined the associations closely and was clear that this design cannot show that parenting causes ADHD. Parenting does influence how self-regulation develops, which is a different claim. That distinction is precisely what a self-blaming parent needs to hear said carefully.

Strength of evidence: one line of research. A single study, or a theoretical account.

Why it works

People stop punishing a difficulty once they can see it as a stage rather than a choice.

This one is still a draft. It is waiting on a scholar and a clinician to read it before it is published.
