Some of what looks like muddle is the system's fault. Our tenth month is named for eight, because two months were added later and nobody renamed the rest.

Worth saying to anyone who feels stupid about dates and forms. A calendar whose numbers are out of step, a tax year starting in April, forms asking for a date in three different formats: none of it was designed for a memory working under pressure. Handing the blame back to the system is a small move, and it changes how much of the difficulty a person carries as a personal fault.

Qur’an and Sunnah

And ease my task for me (Quran 20:26). Moses asks for the task to be made lighter rather than for himself to be made tougher, which is a fair thing to want from a form.

وَيَسِّرۡ لِيٓ أَمۡرِي

What the research says

A systematic review of ADHD and procrastination found the pattern turning up alongside ADHD again and again, while stating that the mechanisms behind the association are not settled. Difficulties around time are well observed and less well explained. That is a reason to be modest about explanations and practical about the remedy, which here is mostly to stop treating the person as the problem.

Why it works

Shame goes down when the difficulty is put where it actually belongs.

This one is still a draft. It is waiting on a scholar and a clinician to read it before it is published.
