Medication does not simply turn the brain up. On scans the regions that should be busy during a task get busier, and the ones that should stay quiet settle.
That detail matters more than it sounds. It says the trouble is one of aim rather than a shortage of effort, which is the opposite of what many people have been told about themselves for years. If you are explaining treatment to someone, this is usually the part they remember afterwards, and it does work that arguing about willpower never manages.

Qur’an and Sunnah
'From their bellies comes a drink of different colours in which there is healing for people' (Quran 16:69). A remedy placed inside an ordinary created thing is a pattern the Quran points to, not an intrusion on faith.
ثُمَّ كُلِي مِن كُلِّ ٱلثَّمَرَٰتِ فَٱسۡلُكِي سُبُلَ رَبِّكِ ذُلُلࣰ اۚ يَخۡرُجُ مِنۢ بُطُونِهَا شَرَابࣱ مُّخۡتَلِفٌ أَلۡوَٰنُهُۥ فِيهِ شِفَآءࣱ لِّلنَّاسِۚ إِنَّ فِي ذَٰلِكَ لَأٓيَةࣰ لِّقَوۡمࣲ يَتَفَكَّرُونَ

What the research says
A systematic review and meta-analysis of imaging studies found stimulants consistently normalised activity in particular frontal and striatal regions while people carried out tasks needing inhibition and attention. The measure there is brain activity during a task rather than school marks or a calmer house, so it describes a mechanism instead of promising an outcome. Within that limit it holds up across studies.

Attention is a question of where activity goes, so a treatment that helps is one that improves the aim.

Do not compare your dose with anybody else's. Two milligrams of one medicine and a hundred milligrams of another can both be perfectly ordinary, because strength per milligram differs from molecule to molecule.
Long acting stimulants are the usual starting point for a plain reason: they cover the most hours and they remove the lunchtime dose, which is the dose ADHD is most likely to swallow whole.
Conversations about alcohol and cannabis tend to be timed for the child you expect to have at fourteen. With an attention difficulty in the picture, start them earlier and keep them light.
