Areas › Your body › Touch and bodywork
Aching shoulders and a bad back are not separate from finding it hard to concentrate. Pain takes up room in your head, and there is less left for anything else.
People who are restless tend to hold more tension and pick up more injuries, and then the pain makes the focus worse, and round it goes. So it is worth treating the body properly rather than filing it under things to deal with later. Stretching, movement you enjoy, and hands on work all interrupt the loop at the same place. If concentration has got noticeably worse, ask what hurts before you ask what is wrong with your attention.
Qur’an and Sunnah
Ibrahim counts among God's dealings with him 'He who cures me when I am ill' (Quran 26:80). Illness of the body is named as its own thing, worth its own attention.

What the research says
In a randomised trial of 60 people with long standing mechanical neck pain, adding connective tissue massage to stabilising exercises improved pain, anxiety and quality of life more than the exercises alone. Body and mood shifting together in the same trial is the relevant part. It was one modest study of neck pain and it says nothing about attention.

Strength of evidence: one line of research. A single study, or a theoretical account.
Why it works
Pain uses the same attention you were trying to spend on something else.
This one is still a draft. It is waiting on a scholar and a clinician to read it before it is published.
Near this one
The first twinge often brings back every previous episode with it, and that dread is not separate from the pain. Fear tightens the muscles and turns the volume up.
When a treatment is described as approved, ask what it is approved for. Magnetic brain stimulation is licensed for depression, and using it for attention problems is off label.
Telling someone what a treatment will actually be like improves how they respond to it. What it feels like, how long, what is normal afterwards.
