The old argument about medication against behaviour therapy was set down years ago. The useful question now is what each one covers.
They work by different routes and they reach different hours of the day, so putting them in a single contest was never going to tell anyone much. When you plan treatment, sketch out the week and ask what is covering which part of it. Gaps show up quickly that way, and they never show up in a debate about which approach is superior.

Qur’an and Sunnah
'do not enter all by one gate' (Quran 12:67). Jacob's instruction was about using more than one route towards the same end.
وَقَالَ يَٰبَنِيَّ لَا تَدۡخُلُواْ مِنۢ بَابࣲ وَٰحِدࣲ وَٱدۡخُلُواْ مِنۡ أَبۡوَٰبࣲ مُّتَفَرِّقَةࣲۖ وَمَآ أُغۡنِي عَنكُم مِّنَ ٱللَّهِ مِن شَيۡءٍۖ إِنِ ٱلۡحُكۡمُ إِلَّا لِلَّهِۖ عَلَيۡهِ تَوَكَّلۡتُۖ وَعَلَيۡهِ فَلۡيَتَوَكَّلِ ٱلۡمُتَوَكِّلُونَ
He said, ‘My sons, do not enter all by one gate- use different gates. But I cannot help you against the will of God: all power is in God’s hands. I trust in Him; let everyone put their trust in Him,’

What the research says
A randomised trial added cognitive behavioural therapy for adults already taking ADHD medication and found core symptoms improved further, with mixed effects on the problems that travelled alongside. That is one trial in adults with additional difficulties, so it is not a general proof that everything should be combined. It is direct evidence that adding therapy to medication can give something medication alone did not.

Two treatments that work differently tend to cover different gaps rather than compete for the same one.

Watch someone on a laboratory stop task and two things move together on medication: the fidgeting drops and the stopping gets more accurate.
The stimulants get described as dopamine drugs, and they touch noradrenaline as well. That second effect is what led to medicines aimed at noradrenaline on its own.
That locked design turned out to carry an unplanned kindness: a somewhat longer day, and for many teenagers and adults a softer start and a softer finish, with less jaw clenching and less of the ragged hour when it wears off.
