There are two quite different ways of putting things off. One is anxious and full of dread. The other is perfectly calm until the pressure arrives, and then everything happens at once.

The difference matters because the help is not the same. Where there is dread, the work is with the fear, and approaching the task in small doses helps. Where there was simply no concern until Thursday afternoon, there is nothing to calm down: the deadline never came closer in any felt sense, so it has to be made visible early instead. Treating the second like the first can waste months, which is why it is worth asking plainly which one you recognise.

Qur’an and Sunnah

He made the sun a shining radiance and the moon a light, determining phases for it so that you might know the number of years and how to calculate time (Quran 10:5). The counting is put outside the person, which is what a calendar has to do when the feeling is missing.

It is He who made the sun a shining radiance and the moon a light, determining phases for it so that you might know the number of years and how to calculate time. God did not create all these without a true purpose; He explains His signs to those who understand

What the research says

In an experiment, making people anxious made time feel as though it was passing more quickly, while fear did not do the same. That is evidence that emotional state changes time estimation in specific ways rather than generally, and it is a laboratory study of induced states, not a study of deadlines. It does support keeping the anxious and the unworried patterns apart instead of treating all delay as one thing.

Strength of evidence: one line of research. A single study, or a theoretical account.

Why it works

You cannot settle a fear that was never there, and no amount of reassurance makes a distant date feel near.

This one is still a draft. It is waiting on a scholar and a clinician to read it before it is published.
