You do not have to agree that it will take longer. Add the extra time anyway and let the week prove you right or wrong. If you finish early, you have a spare twenty minutes, which is not a punishment.

This matters because the felt sense of duration is stubborn, and waiting until it corrects itself means waiting a long while. So treat the padding as a rule you follow rather than a belief you hold. Plenty of people run their whole calendar this way, quietly certain each time that it is unnecessary, and quietly on time.

Qur’an and Sunnah

The sun and moon were given phases so that you might know the number of years and how to calculate time (Quran 10:5). Calculation is offered as the instrument, above the impression.

It is He who made the sun a shining radiance and the moon a light, determining phases for it so that you might know the number of years and how to calculate time. God did not create all these without a true purpose; He explains His signs to those who understand

What the research says

An experiment found that induced anxiety made time seem to pass more quickly, while fear did not. It is a small demonstration of a bigger point: the felt passage of time is pushed about by your state, in specific directions, so it is not a reliable instrument. That was a laboratory study in a general sample rather than a test of padding your schedule.

Strength of evidence: one line of research. A single study, or a theoretical account.

Why it works

Behaviour can change while the intuition behind it stays exactly as wrong as it was.

This one is still a draft. It is waiting on a scholar and a clinician to read it before it is published.
