Awareness is knowing what needs doing and when. Motivation is doing it once you know. Nearly every app on the market solves the first one, which is why buying another one so rarely helps.
Test it with one question: at the moment it did not happen, did you know? If the answer is yes, the reminder was never the missing piece, and a louder or cleverer or more colourful reminder just gives the person one more thing to ignore. Each ignored system also chips away at their belief that anything will ever work, which is the expensive part.
Qur’an and Sunnah
'Lord, lift up my heart' (Quran 20:25). Moses asks for something inside himself before he asks for anything else, which is a fair description of what is missing when the reminder was never the problem.

What the research says
The gap between knowing and doing has been studied under the name of procrastination. A systematic review found it frequently observed alongside ADHD, while noting that the consistency of the association and its mechanisms remain unclear. So the pattern is well recognised and the explanation is not settled, which is a reason to look at what the person actually does instead rather than assuming you know why.

Why it works
Information only helps someone who was short of information.
This one is still a draft. It is waiting on a scholar and a clinician to read it before it is published.

With gambling machines the pull may be the lights and the noise as much as the chance of winning. That changes what you actually need to stay away from.
Autism and ADHD share some surface features and are still two different things. The social difficulty in each arrives by a different road.
When someone cannot let go of the old rule after the rules have changed, that is the same machinery that loses their keys and drops the thread of a sentence. Stuck, not stubborn.
