Sitting exactly halfway between two options is its own kind of exhausting, and it produces nothing. If you have been weighing something for weeks, the weighing has quietly become the activity.
Give it a deadline and a method. One more week, the three things that matter most, and then you choose, knowing the choice will be imperfect. If you truly cannot, take the option that is easier to undo. It also helps to ask what you would need to know in order to decide, because if that thing is unknowable, more thinking will not produce it.

Lord, lift up my heart (Quran 20:25). A prayer for willingness, made before anything has been settled.

What the research says
A meta-analysis of randomised trials of motivational interviewing, a conversation style built around helping someone work through mixed feelings, found modest but real effects on behaviour in medical settings. It supports treating ambivalence as something to work with rather than argue away. The effects were modest and it was tested in health settings with a trained practitioner.

Strength of evidence: one line of research. A single study, or a theoretical account.
Why it works
Weighing feels like progress, but nothing actually moves until something is chosen.
When not to
If the deciding has gone on for months and comes with lost sleep or dread, it is worth talking to someone, since that pattern often has anxiety underneath it.
This one is still a draft. It is waiting on a scholar and a clinician to read it before it is published.
Near this one
Getting yourself going today usually means borrowing a feeling from later in the week. You are not summoning willpower so much as bringing Thursday's relief, or Thursday's panic, forward into Monday.
Sometimes both roads carry a cost and neither will feel good. Accept that first, then choose, rather than searching for the option that comes without a sting.
Decide now what you get if this is done by Friday, and what it costs you if it is not. Tell someone, so it is on the record.
